iOS 5 Features and Details
Here is the most complete list of iOS 5 features along with some interesting screenshots. It will be available iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (for all iOS devices which were included in previous firmware update). Some of the most interesting features are Notification Center, Newsstand, iMessage, Reminder, Twitter Integration, SafariReader,New Mail client and OTA (over the air update like Android). Overall, Apple has integrated some of the best features of BBM, Android devices, iOS apps in iOS 5. Let’s explore each and every feature one by one.
Apple finally realized that their notification system is too old. They have introduced a new “Notification Center” which unobtrusively displays all notification at the top of the screen. Current notification system was/is quite annoying especially during game play or important tasks. New ‘Notification Center’ improves it. It brings all notification at single place- top of the screen, which you can access sliding them down or completely ignore it hitting the “X” button.
- New Notification Center
- All notification can be accessed from a single place
- It can be grouped with date, time and application
- Dismiss the notification hitting X button at top
- Small notification appears at the top during the game play
- Slide down to access all notifications
- Lock screen displays new notification
New notification center clearly imitates MobileNotifier. It came as no surprise as they’ve hired the developer few weeks back.

No need to enter the same information again and again. Twitter has also been integrated with camera app, Safari to quickly share your content like photos, videos to the follower.
As the name suggest Reminders is a to-do list application. You can manage and add your reminders. Unlike other service, Reminders are location aware system. You can trigger off the event based on your geo-location (say make a call to wife that you’re going out before you enter the Car).
New Camera app is available next to your Lock screen. You can use pinch-to-zoom gesture, single-tap focus and exposure locks to take the picture on the fly. You can also share these pictures on twitter. In iOS 5 you can press volume-up button to take a snap which makes it easy to capture the images.
Safari browser is world’s most used mobile browser. Safari comes with new tabbed browsing like Windows and Mac version. It also brings “Safari Reader” making it easy to read news on your iOS device. You can also save the pages to read it later. Reading Listprovides interesting articles which you wish to read later.
